Yes. Brava uses accredited labs for all the required and additional product testing. All of Brava’s products are Class 4 impact rated. Brava offers Class A and Class C fire ratings. However, unlike the competition, Brava Shake and Slate offer a stand alone Class A fire rating. No special underlayments required.

All tiles are manufactured to uphold the highest quality control standards and withstand the harshest of weather conditions. Brava tiles are tested and approved to withstand wind speeds of up to 188MPH with nails and up to 211MPH with high wind / screw installation.

Yes. Brava roofing products can withstand freeze/thaw cycles, as well as extreme heat. They are also resistant to mold, as they will not absorb water, and they can be installed in the winter months. Not all competitor products are safe to install in all climates and temperatures.

Brava cedar shake comes pre-blended in three different widths and varies in thickness from 5/8” to 7/8”, the thickest on the market, making it indistinguishable from hand split cedar shake. It is available in solid colors or multi-color blends, and since there is little to no breakage, it is more economical to install. With our patented production process, Brava creates a closed cell shake. There will be no mold/mildew/lichen growth which means no maintenance and a longer lasting roof.

All of Brava’s products are all closed cell. Meaning there is very little, if any, water absorption which eliminates freeze/thaw cycle effects. This also protects against mold/mildew/lichen growth practically eliminating costly maintenance.

Installation Questions

NP-1 or Geocel 3500 are approved for use with Brava.

No. To qualify for Brava warranty, existing material must be removed prior to Brava installation. As with any roofing product, the best procedure to use when re-roofing is to tear off the existing roof and use industry approved underlayments to assure the best performance over the lifespan of the roof.

Yes, Brava can be installed in cold weather. You can install Brava in temperatures down to 32°F (0°C).

Brava offers an accessory item for pitch changes and even barrel gables/eaves. Ask your representative about our flexishake and flexislate for your curved roof projects.

Yes. Brava has been used on many mansard roofs.

Yes. There is a nominal amount of thermal expansion, so it is imperative that you install with a gap of 3/8″ between Brava Shake and Slate pieces.

Brava does not require certified installers. We do have Preferred Contractors throughout the country who are experienced with our products and would be happy to connect you with them. Otherwise, an installer who has experience with slate, shake or clay tile will be able to install Brava’s roofing products. You do not need to use a certified installer or Preferred Contractor for a valid warranty as long as the installation instructions are followed.

No. Battens are not required for Brava’s Shake or Slate profiles. Brava recommends using battens for the Spanish Barrel profile, but again, it is not required. Ultimately, it is up to the contractor and project specifications.

Fastener length will depend on several factors (profile, wind rating requirements, fastener type, etc). However, fasteners need to be long enough to penetrate through the deck or minimum 3/4″ into the decking. Brava offers a full line of accessory items so you can order the whole roof system.

Brava requires ring shank coil roofing nails, or #10 screws. Both options need to be corrosive resistant. Brava offers a full line of accessory items so you can order the whole roof system. All of Brava’s accessories come with the matching 50 year warranty.

Yes, however, you must penetrate through the fastener pad on the back side of the tile. You can find our full install instructions in the resources section of our website.

Brava offers a solid tile accessory which can be used in valleys and along gables to give the authentic look of slate or shake. No need to be concerned about those cut edges with our solid accessory.

Brava requires a 30lb felt minimum underlayment but recommends using a synthetic felt. Ice & Water on all eaves, gables, valleys, dormers, and roof penetrations. Brava offers a full line of accessory items so you can order the whole roof system.

Brava recommends 8″ or 9″ COBRA Ridge vent, 8″ self-adhering membrane for hips on Shake and Slate profiles. Zepher Roll/Block for our Spanish Barrel profile. O’Hagin Spanish Vent is also approved. Brava offers a full line of accessory items so you can order the whole roof system.

Brava is considered steep slope roofing. Brava’s standard is 4/12 pitch and higher. If your project falls outside that scope, please contact us and we will provide guidance.

Brava’s installation manual states flashings should be used around all roof projections, such as walls, chimneys, dormers, parapets, vent pipes, skylights, etc. Proven durable flashing materials are copper, tin, lead, galvanized iron and stainless steel.

Brava weighs slightly more than a high quality asphalt shingle. Brava roofing minimizes weight but does not compromise stability.
